US Fuel Prices Are Crazy!
Published on May 26, 2004 By Dark-Star In Humor
Okay, the gas prices here in the US are just crazy. How can $2.09 a gallon for gas EVER be a "good" deal? With gas prices so high, we all could use a lift (I mean that literally). So here are a few comics that I found I could relate with.

I hate to make you feel better but it's DOUBLE that here in Canada. So be quiet and enjoy the friggin' cheaparse gasoline you Americans all whine about!!??!!! Imagine! A litre here was at its highest 98.9cents/litre. There are over 4 litres in a gallon. Get your calculator, use it, then be quiet about how bad you got it. I'm going on a damn road trip this August and gas will likely be $1 litre! I'm towing a trailer! That's lots of gas! Stop crying! Send me money to finance my trip!

I've posted this because I drive over 100 miles a day going to work and my 1.8 liter engine costs me over $200.00 a month in gas. I am glad that it's not $4.00 a gallon, like you have mentioned.. otherwise I think I would quit my job and find one closer to home.

UTTERLY NONSENSICLE..........GAS PRICES ARE CHEAPER THAN THEY WERE 30 YRS AGO. FACTOR IN INFLATION AND GAS PRICES ARE STILL CHEAP. IF YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT SPENDING AN EXTRA 3 BUCKS A WEEK ON GAS, THEN BUY A SMALLER CAR. OIL COMPANIES HAVE CONTRIBUTED MORE THAN ANY OTHER COMPANIES IN OUR AMAZING HIGH TECH SOCIETY. 15 MILLION JOBS, TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF PRODUCTIVITY...........WITHOUT THEM, WE WOULD ALL BE DRIVING HORSE AND BUGGIES. AND YET THE IDIOTS WHO HAVE THE BIGGEST SUPED UP CARS AND THE MOST CARS COMPLAIN THE MOST.

LET THE FREE MARKET WORK AND PRICES WILL COME DOWN. MARK MY WORDS.........IF THE POLITICIANS ALLOW THE MARKET TO WORK, OIL WILL BE UNDER 25 DOLLARS A BARROW AND GAS WILL BE UNDER A BUCK FIFTY BY THE SUMMER OF 2005.

Wow, a comment that I can actually agree with Marvin on. Most Americans don't realize how good they have it with gas prices nowadays. Like Marvin said, factor in inflation etc. and gas is still a pretty good deal. You expect to pay a buck a gallon for gas forever? Go into a local grocery store and look at what you pay for a gallon of MILK and then you tell me what's expensive.

If people are *that* worried about the price of gasoline, maybe they should consider buying a more economical car. I drive a 1979 Honda Civic with over 200,000 miles on it. It still gets 30 miles to the gallon. I have never paid more than $20 to fill my tank, and I was regularly commuting 100+ miles a day. I'd fill up about twice a week. Next time you're at the pump, take a good look at the sticker affixed to it. Notice how much of that two bucks is TAX on your gasoline. I'd wager that it's at least 25-30% in most places.

Canada could have cheaper gas if it produced 1/2 of its gas like the USA does. So, the fact that your gas is high is your own choosing. The USA on the other hand has higher gas prices forced on us by foreigners, which gets in our craw.

That said, we all need to do something to reduce our gas consumption, Canadians and Americans alike. I'm personally driving a Honda Civic at 38+ mpg highway, and my Toyota Sienna van has touched on 30 mpg on the highway.

I have to laugh at how the oil companies must LOVE guys like you. Here you are paying through the nose for gas and you're sitting here laughing about how cheap it REALLY is! But your REALLY isn't in the present time good sirs. Gas is expensive today. Today. Don't take out your economics lesson and recite why paying more is paying less. aight?

Here you are paying through the nose for gas

Who's paying through the nose? Last time I filled up my car (about two weeks ago) I spent $17 on gas. I'm still running 1/4 tank in my car. When gas was 50 cents cheaper, I was paying about $12. So it cost me an extra five bucks. That five bucks would have been spent on something like cigarettes (which I don't smoke anymore due to health and cost) junk food or something else. Given that when I'm working I make about $25/hr, that's roughly 12 minutes of work. I think I can deal with that.

I think the people who are really bitching about the "unfair" gas prices are the people driving cars and trucks with V-8/10/12 motors in them that get gas mileage in the single digits and low teens, spending $60-80 per fill up. Granted, some of these people truly need these vehicles, but if you are driving one out of vanity or status, then you should either consider trading it in for more economical transport, or keep your piehole shut about the prices. No one forced you to buy the Humvee H2 with a 7 liter engine, or the Ford Mustang with the 5 liter V-8.

Marvin, you know nothing about what is going on with fuel prices. Do you know that freight rates are virtually the same as they were 20 years ago? Do think diesel prices are the same? Insurance? Food, clothing, tires, taxes, or anything else?

This sudden increase in fuel prices is putting truckers out of business left and right. I lost my truck last year and know several drivers who managed to survive last year's increases who are losing their trucks this year. Trucking companies are going out of business at the fastest rate since the depression.

People who live in cities have choices. They can use mass transit or car pool to work if they live outside the city. Truckers have no choice. They must buy fuel if the goods YOU go to the store and buy are to be delivered. These fuel prices can't be justified no matter how much oil company propaganda you care to swallow.

Perhaps all the truckers should just shut down for a few weeks. That may get somebody's attention. Of course everyone would starve, there'd be no gas at the pumps, no clothing to buy; but maybe somebody might notice.

Er did you convert USD to CND? Canada's money is half of value of USD, so CND prices "appear" to be double the USD prices.

Anyway, Good article, humorious comics! Thanks!!
